My First Craft Fair - A big day for Willowlight Glassworks

Yesterday was a very special day for me and for Willowlight Glassworks. I attended my very first craft fair!

I’d been preparing for it for weeks, making stained-glass pieces, deciding what to take, working out prices, organising my display and wondering whether people would actually like what I had made.

And I’ll admit it… I was nervous!

From my workshop to my first stall

There’s something quite different about making stained glass at home and then putting your work on a table for complete strangers to see.

Every piece on my stall had been made by me. I had chosen the glass, cut each individual piece, ground the edges, foiled, soldered, finished and polished it.

So when I finally stood back and looked at my stall all set up, I felt incredibly proud.

This wasn't just a table full of stained glass.

It was months of learning, experimenting, making mistakes, improving and slowly building Willowlight Glassworks.

Then people started arriving…

This was the part I had been most nervous about.

Would people stop?

Would they like my work?

Would anyone actually want to buy something I had made?

Thankfully, I didn't need to worry quite as much as I had!

People stopped to look at my glass, asked me questions and gave me some really lovely comments. I enjoyed being able to tell people that everything they were looking at had been handmade by me.

And then came one of the best feelings of the whole day…

Seeing some of my pieces find their forever homes. 💙

Knowing that somebody had chosen something I had made with my own hands, and that it was going to hang in their home, was such a wonderful feeling.

More than just making sales

Of course, selling my work was exciting, but my first craft fair gave me something else that was probably even more important — confidence.

I realised that I could do it.

I could stand behind my own work, talk to people about how it was made and be proud to say:

“I made that.”

I also learnt lots from seeing which pieces people were drawn to, the questions they asked and the designs that made people stop for a closer look.

There are definitely things I'll change and improve for my next fair, but that's all part of the journey.

The first of many, I hope!

When I started making stained glass, I never imagined that one day I would have my own little business, my own website and a craft-fair stall filled with pieces I had created.

Yesterday felt like another little milestone in the story of Willowlight Glassworks.

So, to everyone who stopped at my stall, chatted with me, complimented my work, bought something or simply took the time to have a look — thank you.

You made my first craft fair one I'll always remember.

And to the beautiful pieces that left my stall yesterday…
